Chiropractic Treatment For Stroke Recovery

Chiropractic Treatment for Stroke Recovery

Tom is an stroke survivor now based in Ottawa and he discusses his experience of chiropractic treatment for stroke recovery at Loving Life Chiropractic.

Stoke is the number one reason for long-term disability in Canada, so with 300,000 Canadians living with the adverse effects of stroke are all the beneficial modes of care being thoroughly explored?

What is a Stroke?

But lets start with the basics. Just what is a stroke? A stroke occurs when there is a sudden interruption to the blood supply to the brain. This can be due to a blockage (ischemic stroke) or sudden bleed (hemorrhagic stroke) Depending on where in the brain this occurs and how long the blockage lasts can link to how much loss of function and where that loss of function occurs.

For example, a blockage at the back of the brain (a cerebellar stroke) causes a loss of limb coordination, difficulty walking, nausea and vomiting and vision problems. A stroke at the brain stem (a pontine stroke) can cause loss of speech and in occasional cases can cause total body paralysis (locked-in syndrome). A frontal lobe stroke can cause speech, muscle, thinking and behavioral issues.

What is Chiropractic Care?

So that’s a stroke. What is chiropractic care?

At Loving Life Chiropractic, our chiropractic care is based on the first premise of chiropractic – that the body FUNCTIONS better on all levels when free from spinal imbalance. This spinal imbalance is known as a “vertebral subluxation” and it interferes with correct spine and body movement and more significantly – correct nerve system function.

So in this office our chiropractic care becomes the detection and correction of vertebral subluxation. Nothing more. It’s a simple idea but nerve system interference could conceivably adversely affect every aspect of human endeavor. Thus its removal could potentially have positive results on many levels. Our job at Loving Life Chiropractic  is to detect and correct vertebral subluxation in order to keep you doing what you love for longer!

New Zealand Stroke Recovery Study

Obviously the experience of Practice Members like Tom in the video here is highly individual and results vary on a case by case basis.

In an evidence-informed practice like Loving Life Chiropractic, we also value scientifically valid objective studies in our care plan construction.

Research from a study in New Zealand with 12 subjects showed a 64% increase in foot strength after a single chiropractic adjustment. The full research paper on the study about chiropractic treatment for stroke recovery can be found at the link.

Closer to home our 82-year-old visiting his Ottawa chiropractor discusses his experience of chiropractic treatment for stroke recovery and health improvement.
