I Don’t Give A Duck …
(…I give lots of ducks)
From the Desk of Dr Craig Hindson Your Chiropractor in Westboro
Bad Day?
So someone cuts you up in the car on the way to work, and your blood pressure rises. You drop a few “F-bombs” honk your horn and of course, you arrive at work serene and ready to spread love and happiness😉. And then you get into work and your boss is being an ass.
And at your break you sit with two or three co-workers who are complaining about their partners, or the weather, or the bad sports results, or Trump!
And then you get a series of texts from your sibling/child/friend who is having a particularly bad couple of days and they want to tell you how awful x, y and z is.
And if you sit quietly by yourself, with no other distractions around you may notice a subtle tightness in your stomachand a lack of ease in your body which is a low-level fear response.
How We Are Influenced
In fact, in day-to-day life, there are always ongoing opportunities to see the world in a negative light. A key marketing study showed that fear is 5 times more compelling than opportunity. And we are all subject to 1000s of marketing messages every day. For goodness sakes, that is what sells news, whether it’s in a newspapers or on a Facebook/Instagram doom scroll!
The Shift
But here’s the good news. We can shift our state almost instantaneously.
Imagine this. You are on the banks of a beautiful river and you turn a corner and see a young girl, 5 or 6-years-old feeding a duck with a look of pure joy on her face. Nothing else exists for her.
Do you think in that moment anything else matters to her? Her whole body resonates a beautiful energy at the level of a child feeding a duck.
And we can bring this memory and joy into our life.
Pattern Interrupt
If you carried this joy on the way to work, do you think you would arrive with more peace and understanding, and with a brain ready to be productive, and a more loving spirit?
So this I have a gift to you. Please take one of the ducks I currently have available in my office. Or buy one from a dollar store or bath store if you are not in my area. And give him or her a name.
And whenever you are being moved from your innate (inborn) state of rest and digest (and healing) to a state of fight and flight, pick up your duck, or look at your duck, and bring into your mind, your body and your heart the joy at the level of a young child feeding a duck.
This is just one of many of the tools that I share with you at the Doctor’s Dinner – “Tame the Bear…Stress Less Workshop” which I hold perdiodically (next one is currently 20 Aug 26).
